Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I hire you?

I’ve always been great at spotting errors in the books I read, and I have a strong desire to remedy those issues and make your manuscript publication ready. I’m new to the industry, but I have a keen eye for catching issues to give you the best results possible. I will consult with you on what services you need, how feedback is given, and the length of the process.

What genres do you edit?

I prefer to read mainly mystery, suspense, and romance. However, I am open to other genres, except for erotica. Please reach out to discuss if we are a good fit.

What does an edit entail?

The type of treatment requested will determine the process for the edit/proofreading. I mainly use Microsoft Word with Track Changes on and using Comments to note where there are issues or questions. Other formats such as Google docs and Adobe pdf are also acceptable. We can confer on what type of edit you need.

What style guideline(s) do you use?

I use Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) unless otherwise requested or stated.

Are sample edits available?

To determine if we will make a good team, a chapter or two can be done at the author’s request before confirming a full edit.

What is your turnaround time?

I can usually complete editing/proofreading of the manuscript within 4 weeks, depending on the length of the novel and the type of treatment requested.

Are you willing to talk about your changes?

Yes, definitely! If you have questions about the results, I am glad to consult with you about them, free of charge. I hope to build open, honest communication between Draft Doctor and author.

What are your prices/rates?

The amount charged depends on the length of the manuscript, the type of treatment, and the amount of time it will take to complete. My rates are very reasonable, based on my experience.

Do you charge for subsequent edits of the manuscript?

Subsequent edits of the same manuscript are $100 for each round of edits.

What is your editing background?

Over the past few years, I have conferred with multiple independent authors in several genres. This was a result of reading their published novels, finding issues, and reaching out with corrections for them. I recently started Draft Doctor Editing so that I can consult with more authors and help them polish their work. Currently, I am working through the Proofread Anywhere course to become a proofreading specialist.
